Each Guest is only allowed one Carry-on luggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15.4 lbs.), and one additional personal item (such as a handbag, camera or digital device) onboard. BOTH items combined should not exceed the dimensions of 56 x 36 x 23cm (22" x 14" x 9"). Duty-free goods purchased after check-in will need to be within the size and weight limitations of the carry-on requirements stated above. Any items exceeding weight or size restrictions will have to be checked in, and fees will apply.

Pre-screening of excess carry-on baggage will be performed at the boarding gate to prevent excessive

overhead bin loading. Any excess baggage will be charged according to airport counter fees. Please arrive at the boarding gate at least 1 hour prior to departure time to prevent any delays.

When you are bringing a 18” – 20” Carry-on luggage, possibly you won’t be able to carry another backpack as both items combined dimension are very likely to exceed the restrictions above. When you are bringing backpack plus another bag, the larger of the two will be treated as your Carry-on luggage and will be weighed accordingly. Please remember both items combined should not exceed the dimensions mentioned above. Check your bag size and weight before departing to the airport for a hassle-free journey. We recommend our Guests to pre-book necessary checked baggage allowance online to avoid any last-minute airport fees.


Cabin Baggage Restrictions on Liquids, Aerosols & Gels

Many countries have strict restrictions on the carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels in the cabin. These restrictions include:

  • Liquids, gels and aerosols must be in containers with capacity of 100ml or less.
  • Containers must be presented at security in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag with maximum capacity not to exceed 1L.
  • The plastic bag must be presented to security separately from other cabin baggage for examination at the security check point.

Lithium Ion Batteries

Small Lithium batteries such as those used for Mobile phones, cameras, watches, portable music players and laptop computers are allowed under the following conditions.

In your cabin baggage

  • Capacity is Under 100 Watt hours (Wh)
  • Lithium content (LC) is under 2g
  • Maximum of 20 pcs

In your Check in Baggage

  • Must be inside equipment
  • Maximum of 10 pcs
  • Each piece under 160 Watt hours (Wh) or 2g of Lithium content
  • Spare batteries are not allowed

Please note that non-rechargeable batteries with more than 2g of lithium (C size battery and above) are not allowed to be carried in any baggage and can only be carried as cargo.

Medium Lithium batteries such as those used to charge laptops, by professionals or for lifesaving equipment between 100-160 Watt hours (Wh) are allowed under the following conditions.

In your cabin baggage

  • Stored inside equipment
  • Stored properly in original packaging or with tape over the terminals
  • Place in separate packaging

In your Check In baggage

  • Capacity is within 160 Watt hours (Wh) or 2g
  • Maximum of 10 pcs
  • Stored within equipment
  • Spare batteries are not allowed

For information regarding Large lithium batteries such as those found in mobility devices and industrial equipment are banned from baggage with the exception of batteries used for Wheelchairs or mobility devices. Smart baggage

Beginning January 1st, 2018 smart baggage with lithium battery power banks that cannot be removed will be banned from Check In and cabin baggage on all HK Express flights.

All lithium battery power banks in smart baggage will only be allowed for carriage if the battery can be removed and meet the requirements of our lithium ion baggage policy. For more information about this policy please refer to the above. The battery removal must be demonstrated to our ground staff, however may remain installed as long as all functions of the smart baggage are switched of for the entirety of the flight.

For any smart baggage which needs to be checked in at the gate, the batteries must be removed, placed in a plastic bag and carried on board in the cabin.

What is Smart Baggage? 

According to the International Air Transport Administration, a smart baggage is defined as an Innovative baggage with integrated lithium batteries.

Examples of Smart baggage include features such as;

•Lithium ion battery and motor allowing it to be used as a personal transportation device, either as a stand-up scooter, or sit on vehicle. These devices do not meet the criteria of a mobility device.

•Lithium ion battery power bank that allows charging of other electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets and laptops.

•GPS tracking devices with or without GSM capability.

•Bluetooth, RFID and Wi-Fi capability.

•Electronic baggage tags.

•Electronic lock/s.

•Lithium ion battery, motor and tracking device (GPS) allowing the bag to self-propel and ‘follow’ the owner.
