Our Ongoing Safety & Hygiene Commitment

Safety is our core value.

Safety is part of our DNA, we take pride in this value and is reflected across all our teams and touchpoints. That is why we always strive to deliver the highest standard of operational safety to our customers and crew – and for this reason, we have been accredited by IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) programme since 2014 – an internationally recognised and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline.

We are also a member of the Flight Safety Foundation. It is an international non-profit organisation whose sole purpose is to provide impartial, independent, expert safety guidance and resources for the aviation and aerospace industry.

Safety enhancements have been our ongoing effort, which is well proven by our recent award of “Extraordinary Contribution and Efforts on Airport Safety” in the Airport Safety Recognition Scheme Hong Kong International Airport – our home base.

Safety is not only an individual effort but a collaborative one. We have devoted ourselves to cultivating a safety-first work culture throughout different teams and operations. Take a dive into how we turn this culture into action.

Putting Safety to Service

Our Safety Management System delivers across the journey to ensure all safety touchpoints have been assessed and ensure each aircraft is airworthy. Through continuous monitoring from regulations, policies, and reports, the systematic process keeps all teams informed and prepared.

Safety is rooted in our DNA

Every staff at HK Express is proactive and innovative in keeping up safety in the ever-changing environment. An e-safety reporting system is designed for prompt actions and solutions, supported by business intelligence tools to analyse continuous safety improvements. Our Maintenance & Engineering Team introduced U.care, an internal safety newsletter, which is issued regularly for industry and timely updates to keep the team up-to-date on safety measurements.
Extensive Training in Flight Operations

Not only from the tremendous initial trainings to become a pilot, but our Cockpit Crew members are also committed to extensive ongoing training, putting in many hours in the simulators to replicate all types of flight scenarios and on the ground to build an environment of safety culture.

We Fly Safe and Fly Well

To adapt to safety and quarantine requirements in recent years, we introduced a closed-loop flying program so that more of our Cabin Crew and Cockpit Crew members can return to work and deliver more passengers to their destinations. After the closed-loop, quarantine and medical surveillance will be carried out according to government requirements. This practice is to ensure the wellness and build the confidence of the crew members, their family and the community.

Uphold Aircraft Airworthiness

Our Engineers and Operations Control Centre work closely together to ensure high safety standards, regulation compliance, and reliable aircraft for operation.

Quality Audits and Inspections

More than 230 quality audits, inspection and safety surveys were conducted with no risk findings including two recent IOSA Renewal Audit – the industry’s highest safety standards and best practice.

Putting Business Resilience into Action

Safety also means ensuring we respond effectively in emergency incidents. We put theory into practice with every opportunity available where we participated in the annual Aircraft Crash and Rescue Exercise at Hong Kong International Airport on 24 May 2022.

Joint efforts were made with over 350 representatives from over 20 organisations and Government departments. The exercise simulated the incidents in the event of an emergency such as emergency evacuation from the aircraft; handling of fatalities and rescue of of injured passengers and crew - this enabled the opportunity to respond with compassion, professionalism and confidence.

Also simulated were the reunion of affected passengers with their family members as soon as possible - with supporting help from aid agencies and voluntary organisation such as Red Cross, St Johns were also arranged to provide psychological support, humanitarian assistance and religious care service.

Compliment from Airport Authority Hong Kong:

“For Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), the safety of our passengers, staff, and airport operations is always our top priority. In the many years operating at Hong Kong International Airport, HK Express have been sharing our commitment in maintaining safe environment and operations, as well as actively participating in our safety exercises and drills. We believe HK Express will continue to uphold a high safety standard in their service.”
