HK Express Sponsors Hong Kong International Film Festival The Airline Celebrates Creativity with Movie Night and Livery Design Competition

Hong Kong, 26 Mar, 2018

Hong Kong-based airline HK Express is honoured to be one of the official sponsors of the 42nd Hong Kong International Film Festival, which runs from 19 March to 5 April 2018. To cultivate creativity and cross-cultural awareness amongst Hong Kong youth, the airline joined hands with Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) to co-host a movie screening night last night (22 March 2018). During the event, HK Express also announced an exciting livery design competition.

Taking place at The Grand Cinema, inside ELEMENTS shopping mall in West Kowloon, the HK Express x HKIFF movie screening night invited around 130 school students to enjoy the festival’s first screening of On Happiness Road. Awarded “Best Animated Feature Film” earlier this March at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2018, the film is a masterpiece of imagination and introspection. Taiwanese director Sung Hsin-yin tells the story of Chi, a Taiwanese woman who grew up in a poor family and later moved to the U.S. to pursue the American Dream. When Chi returns to her childhood home to mourn her grandmother’s passing, a series of flashbacks explores Taiwan’s turbulent history and questions the meaning of happiness.

How does it work? The competition runs from today (23 March 2018) to 31 May 2018. Students can download the application form and the aircraft visual online (download link: http://on.cc/hkexpress/form.pdf), then submit their work via email (promotion.sales@on.cc). Participants can stay updated on results by checking HK Express’ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HKExpress), where a total of six winners will be announced on 8 June 2018. The winners will be invited to join an all-expenses-paid cultural tour in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, to explore the uniqueness of Takamatsu and the places within the prefecture which covers the students’ HK Express flights, accommodations, food and tours. The immersive five-day tour is a fantastic opportunity for the winning students to explore Japanese culture and design aesthetics.

Before viewers settled in to watch the award-winning film, HK Express invited students to partake in a competition to design the airline’s A321 aircraft livery. Open to all underprivileged secondary students in Hong Kong, the competition encourages students to showcase their talents and creativity. There are no requirements on colour palettes or illustration styles, however, the design should relay the artist’s personal interpretation of a “Happy Journey”.

As part of our commitment to nurturing culture and youth development in Hong Kong, HK Express is honoured to be a sponsor of the Hong Kong International Film Festival,” said Mr. Jonathan Hutt, Commercial Director of HK Express. “In the same vein, we hope the ongoing livery design competition will encourage students to express their creativity and think outside the box.
