As the capital of Khánh Hòa Province, Nha Trang — historically known as Kauthara — was once a quiet fishing village. It wasn’t until the French colonial era that Nha Trang became one of the more popular beach getaways, thanks in part to its scenic views, white sand beaches and mild climate. Today, Nha Trang is an exciting blend of old and new, featuring centuries-old historic sites and colonial buildings right alongside new high-rise hotels, amusement parks, museums, and contemporary bars and restaurants. In recent years, Nha Trang has developed into a popular resort town with non-stop activities for visitors.

Nha Trang Beach 

Stretching across 6km of crescent coast line, Nha Trang Beach is an essential stop on any itinerary. Boats, jet-skis and other water activities draw sporty types, while beach bums appreciate the quiet stretches dedicated to swimming.

Scuba Diving

Home to some of the best scuba diving in the world, Nha Trang’s dive experiences cater to both experienced veterans and beginners. A number of diving centres along the beach offer bespoke trips, as well as classes and snorkelling. 

Po Nagar Cham Towers

Pay a visit to one of Nha Trang’s most famous religious landmarks: the 12-century Po Nagar Cham Towers. The ancient towers are a highlight for history buffs, captivating travellers with its intricate stone facades, terraced roofs and vaulted interiors. Till today, the four historic landmark is a place of worship for Buddhists. 

The Long Son Pagoda

Erected in the 19th Century, The Long Son Pagoda is famous for its 14-metre-tall Buddha statue. More than 100 steps lead up to the pagoda’s viewing platform, where travellers are rewarded with expansive views of the city.

Dam Market

If you’re keen to stroll through the local markets, don’t miss the Dam Market. Located near the Cai River, this bustling stable of stalls is surrounded by beautiful French-colonial buildings and historic Chinese homes. The colourful shops sell everything from fresh fruits to seafood, making it a great place to sample Nha Trang’s local cuisine

Nha Trang is popular with both affluent travellers as well as budget backpackers. There are international five-star resorts and charming boutique properties with oceanfront views, as well as several budget-friendly hotel options within walking distance of the beach.

Easily accessible in most locations, metered taxis make it easy and safe to get around Nha Trang. More adventurous travellers may choose to explore the area on bicycles or mopeds. 

Every year between February and May is the best time to visit Nha Trang. The weather enjoys an average mean temperature between 26°C and 27°C. Diving enthusiasts may visit during the peak diving season January and October. To enjoy clear waters and coral-rich dive sites, visit between April and August when the rainfall is at its lowest in Nha Trang.
