HK Express Introduces New Policy on Powder-like Substances Over 12 Ounces or 350ml

The TSA Mandate Affects Only US-Bound Routes Including Outbound Flights to Saipan

Hong Kong, 04 Jul, 2018

Following recent U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mandates, Hong Kong-based airline HK Express will implement new screening measures on powder-like substances. Effective 30 June 2018, substances exceeding 12 ounces or 350ml may only be carried in checked baggage.

If found in carry-on bags, such substances could be subject to additional screenings or potentially discarded. Aboard HK Express, the updated policy affects only outbound flights to the U.S. territory of Saipan. All other HK Express routes remain unaffected.

Examples of substances that may be subject to scrutiny or restricted from carry-on include cosmetic powders, dry spices and protein powders. Substances such as baby formula, cremated human remains, medically prescribed items and duty-free powders inside a properly sealed Secure Tamper Evident Bag are exempted, but may be subject to additional security screening.

For security purposes, travellers may be asked to separate dense powders from other items. To avoid inconvenience, passengers are advised to carry any powders exceeding 350ml in their checked baggage.

HK Express will continue to adhere and abide by all introduced TSA measures. If unsure about items in their carry-on baggage, guests are recommended to contact HK Express’ Call Centre at +852 3902 0288, or visit the airline’s official website www.hkexpress.com for further details.
