More Flights, More Fun: HK Express to Increase Flight Frequency to Takamatsu Catering to High Demand, Hong Kong’s Low-Cost Carrier to Begin Operations on 31 October

Hong Kong, 15 Aug, 2019

Ever since HK Express, Hong Kong’s low-cost carrier, launched the first direct routes from Hong Kong to Takamatsu in 2016, the port city on Shikoku Island in the Seto Inland Sea has quickly grown in popularity. Keeping pace with high demand, HK Express is pleased to announce the additional frequency, which is scheduled to operate every Thursday starting on 31 October. Following this addition, HK Express will operate a total of five flights to Takamatsu per week.

Why Takamatsu? For starters, the region has become synonymous with arts and culture. In fact, one of the most important festivals on Asia’s arts circuit, the Setouchi Triennale, takes place across 12 islands around the Seto Inland Sea every three years. Coming up this autumn from 28 September to 4 November, the contemporary arts festival will once again immerse travellers in large-scale installations, avant-garde public artwork, murals and interactive crafts exhibition that celebrate local culture and traditions.

The surrounding Kagawa Prefecture is also known for its lush landscapes and pristine environment. Nature enthusiasts can explore the rolling hills and rustic coastline where trees explode with colour in the autumn and spring. Cherry blossoms season is nothing short of stunning, particularly when viewed from the Mt Shiude Lookout Point or Flower Park Urashima – named two of the best spots for cherry blossoms in all of Japan.

Of course, an urban adventure in Takamatsu city offers another rewarding way to experience the area. Known for its approachable atmosphere, the city is loaded with things to do, including the Takamatsu City Museum of Art, Tamamo Park and Takamatsu Castle, Shikoku Mura (an open-air museum featuring traditional houses), and beautiful Ritsurin Park – one of the prettiest gardens in Japan. The city’s food scene is another highlight: don’t leave without trying the famous Sanuki udon noodles, traditionally served warm with dashi and satisfying soy broth.

“We’re excited to add another flight to Takamatsu so that more of our valued guests can experience the beauty of surrounding Kagawa Prefecture and the Seto Inland Sea region,” said Jonathan Hutt, Commercial Director of HK Express. “Takamatsu continues to grow in popularity, driven by its dynamic array of cultural activities, art festivals and stunning natural scenery. It’s easy to see why people are flocking to this artistic and cultural epicentre of Japan and we hope to make the trip more flexible and enjoyable with more flight options.”
