HK Express Breathes New Life into Old Uniforms Collaborating with “Moving Drawing” for Upcycled Travel Pouch

Retired HK Express uniforms are ready to see the world with you! Following the successful launch of the Christmas socks that raised funds for children with special health needs, HK Express is now excited to offer a 150-piece limited edition of travel pouches and a 100-piece limited edition of teddy bears namely “Berry” available to purchase on its online shop. Through this upcycling initiative, approximately 80% of over 3,000 retired uniforms items have been saved from landfills. This achievement reflects HK Express’ commitment to sustainability and waste reduction.

HK Express CEO Jeanette Mao said: “In support of Hong Kong’s ‘Waste Blueprint for Hong Kong 2035’, HK Express collaborates with different organisations to upcycle our retired uniforms and turn them into creative and unique merchandises. This helps reduce municipal solid waste while promoting circular economy. We hope this project can bring together like-minded partners to join us in promoting a more sustainable future.”

The travel pouch is crafted from high-quality yarn recycled from our retired uniform fabrics, processed by The Billie Upcycling, a specialised textile recycling factory that converts old textiles into recycled yarns without water consumption and hazardous discharge through its recycling process. To add an artistic touch, HK Express invites local illustrator Charlotte Lui, aka “Moving Drawing”, to design the pouch. Lui’s illustrations depict the delightful interactions between the crew and passengers, capturing the unique travel experience with HK Express.

In addition, Berry, our sustainably crafted teddy bear, produced in collaboration with Hong Kong sustainable fashion designer Mountain Yam earlier last year, is joining the squad available for purchase for the first time on our online shop. Berry now proudly serves as HK Express’ ambassador for sustainability, advocating for waste reduction and upcycling to both our business partners and the public.
