Hong Kong, 17 September 2026 – HK Express Airways (HK Express) welcomes the initiatives outlined by Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR John Lee in Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan and the 2026 Policy Address to enhance Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation hub, deepen Hong Kong’s connectivity with the national aviation network, and improve intermodal development across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

As a Hong Kong-based low-cost carrier, HK Express has been supporting the development of Hong Kong’s aviation and tourism sectors by providing convenient, flexible and value-priced air services. Currently, approximately one in every eight passengers departing from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) travels with HK Express. This reflects the role of low-cost carriers in broadening HKIA’s passenger base, stimulating leisure travel demand, and supporting the development of Hong Kong’s aviation hub. As transport infrastructure and intermodal connectivity between Hong Kong and other GBA cities continue to improve, HKIA’s passenger catchment will further expand, helping to attract more travellers from the GBA and the Chinese Mainland to travel via Hong Kong.

HK Express has continued to expand its Chinese Mainland route network in recent years. The airline currently operates routes to and from Beijing Daxing, Sanya, Ningbo, Yiwu, Changzhou and Wuxi, covering key markets including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Hainan Free Trade Port and East China. East China, in particular, is one of HK Express’ key Chinese Mainland growth markets, enabling the airline to connect different city clusters in the Yangtze River Delta and promote two-way passenger flows between Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland cities.

HK Express also works actively with tourism promotion authorities and industry partners in various GBA cities. Through greater synergy across route development, travel products and marketing initiatives, the airline aims to unlock incremental passenger demand and expand the overall tourism market.

Looking ahead, HK Express will continue to respond to market demand and, subject to commercial viability, operational feasibility, traffic rights and relevant regulatory requirements, review and optimise its route network and services. The airline will also continue to work closely with the Government, Airport Authority Hong Kong, tourism promotion authorities and industry stakeholders to contribute to consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an international aviation hub, promoting regional connectivity, and supporting the development of Hong Kong’s tourism economy.
